Dispar Anthias

 

Dispar Anthias, Pseudanthias dispar 

The Dispar Anthias is a shallow water reef inhabitant belonging to the Serranidae family, which also includes sea basses and groupers. Anthias are an excellent choice for larger reef aquariums of 75 gallons or more and are peaceful with other non-predatory reef fishes. It is best to keep Anthias in a group of at least 5 individuals of the species. Anthias are hermaphroditic in nature, changing from female to male as they mature. If a dominant male perishes or is removed from the group, the largest female will commonly change to male to take his place; this can happen in as short as a couple of weeks time. In general, Anthias have a high metabolism and should be offered food multiple times daily. They grow to an average of 4inches long.
